Hermiston High School students in the Oregon Teacher Pathway (OTP) program invite community members to attend the 3rd Annual Research Night on Wednesday, May 15, at 6 p.m., in the high school library.
Talía Borrego, Crystal Chairez, Emma Combes, Jennifer Fuentes, Abby Gallanger, Tabitha Iverson, Naxely Jaime, Mykah Krumwiede, Aaliyah Madrigal, Damaris Martínez, Anani Medina, Erika Preciado, Ana Ramírez Reyes, Montserrat Sánchez, Logan Sinor, Ellen Vander Stelt, and Lucia Wiley are preparing a gallery walk of presentations.
The Oregon Teacher Pathway program provides juniors and seniors, who are interested in pursuing a career in education, the opportunity to explore the field of teaching and investigate educational inequities while earning college credit through Eastern Oregon University. Students examine topics related to schools and communities at the local, state, and national level, through the analysis of current issues affecting the academic performance of cultural, ethnic, and linguistic minority students. OTP students get hands-on teaching experience, working one-on-one with elementary students in our community. OTP students then have the opportunity to continue the program at EOU.
“The students have worked hard to research relevant issues pertaining to education and are ready to present their findings to staff and community members,” stated Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher Courtney Barnes. “I am excited for our students as they continue their educational journey to becoming a teacher. The district will be so fortunate to have them as employees in the near future.”

HHS se prepara para la 3er Noche Anual de Investigaciones
Los estudiantes de la Preparatoria de Hermiston que están en el programa de Oregon Teacher Pathway (Camino Hacia la Profesión de Maestros—siglas en inglés OTP) invitan a padres y miembros de la comunidad a su 3er Noche Anual de Investigaciones, el miércoles, 15 de mayo, a las 6 p.m., en la biblioteca de la preparatoria.

El programa Oregon Teacher Pathway les provee a los estudiantes en el grado 11 y 12, que están interesados en emprender una carrera en educación, la oportunidad de explorar el campo de la enseñanza e investigar las inequidades educativas, mientras obtienen créditos universitarios a través de Eastern Oregon University (EOU). Los estudiantes examinan temas relacionados con las escuelas y comunidades a nivel local, estatal y nacional, a través del análisis de temas actuales que afectan el rendimiento académico de estudiantes de diferente cultura, etnicidad y aptitud lingüística. Los estudiantes en OTP obtienen experiencia práctica, trabajando “uno a uno” con estudiantes en las escuelas primarias en nuestra comunidad. Estudiantes en OTP tienen la oportunidad de continuar el programa en EOU.
“Los estudiantes han trabajado muy duro para investigar temas relevantes pertinentes a la educación y están listos para presentar sus conclusiones al personal y miembros de la comunidad,” declaró la Maestra de Ciencias de la Familia y del Consumidor Courtney Barnes. “Estoy muy emocionada que nuestras estudiantes sigan su jornada en convertirse en maestras. El distrito será muy afortunado de tenerlas como empleadas en un futuro cercano.”
